I just finished my first week of interning and I'm exhausted! I've been researching films, mostly. I read what people say about them, write a brief synopsis, crop some images (after requesting a press release, if necessary), and post snippets of reviews. My supervisor seems to be happy with my work. It's not very stimulating work; the thought that had been in the back of my head, that maybe I could work there after college and move to London, is gone. I'll be glad when the six weeks are up. But I'm trying not to let these thoughts run rampant through my mind, because it's valuable experience that I can easily play up on a resume, and it hasn't been SO bad.
So, about London. I've seen the important sites finally, done some shopping (I didn't pack for 50 degree weather!!!), checked out Piccadilly Circus, saw Platform 9 and 3/4 at King's Cross, and went on a day trip to Greenwich. Greenwich was my favorite part so far. It resonated for me in a way that I had been waiting for London to do, and in a way that the city does not. I really enjoy being in London and I'm grateful for this opportunity, but I haven't fallen in love with it the way I expected I would, the way I did with Vienna.
Greenwich was the closest I came, however, to loving London. Even shadowed by clouds, it was beautiful, quaint, and approachable. Greenwich seemed willing to be loved, while the city of London doesn't help you love it. London is what it is.
My photos (and some that my friends took-- my camera drowned in the London rain!) are up to be viewed on Flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lizinlondon12/
